On December 5, 1955, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. emerged as the leader of the civil rights movement following the arrest of Rosa Parks. Mrs. Parks, jailed for refusing to relinquish her seat to a white man on a Montgomery city bus, became the icon of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The Montgomery Bus Boycott lasted 381 days and resulted in the Supreme Court ruling segregation on public buses unconstitutional. A significant play towards civil rights and transit equity, the Montgomery Bus Boycott eliminated early barriers to transportation access.
The boycott economically impacted the government because it morphed into a strike against the local government of Montgomery. The government received little to no money from the black consumers who normally used their buses.
Montgomery City Lines lost over 40,000 bus fares each day during the boycott. The bus company that operated the city busing suffered financially from the seven month long boycott and was desperate to end the boycott.
The owner of Linnie's Pub in Cincinnati, because of a tweet by Lebron James criticizing the police officer who shot 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant, has stated that he will not show NBA games until Lebron is kicked out of the league... Well, Linnie, good luck with that.
Yes, Ma'Khia was in the wrong - even though she tragically made the call to police for help - but we have seen a plethora of videos showing white cops deescalating situations with armed white folks. No need to shoot her in the chest 4 times, killing her. Shoot her in the arm, use your taser, wrestle her to the ground, as we have seen you do your Caucasian counterparts.
Anyway, while you wait for the NBA to expel Mr. James, we'll get a boycott started against your business. You may want to look into another line of work.
